Land Donated to Park District

Thanks to a brother and sister who owned a drive-in movie theater in Simi Valley for decades, the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District will receive 13.2 acres that very likely will be used to extend some trails in the 136-acre Tierra Rejada park.

Bruce Corwin and his sister Bonnie Fuller donated the land near Tierra Rejada Road and Stargaze Place, said Al Church, park district general manager.

“This is going to give us the ability to connect a couple of trails around there,” Church said. “The property consists of some really nice, gentle rolling hills with a nice view of the valley and the Arroyo Simi River.”

The land is next to a closed drive-in movie theater, which will be developed into a 51-home subdivision, Church said. The housing developer did not need all of the 27 acres where the drive-in theater is situated so the 13 acres was returned to Corwin and Fuller, said Bill Hughes, vice president of planning and development for Metropolitan Theaters Corp., which managed the drive-in theater.

The siblings had owned the property since 1965, Hughes said. The land was donated in the names of the Bruce and Toni Corwin Foundation and the Fuller Family Foundation, Church said.

Park officials have not determined what else they would like to do with the 13 acres, Church said.
