Freshman Farmer Impressive in USC’s Exhibition Win

USC fans, hoping that freshman guard Desmon Farmer could be something close to the player they’ve read about, had to be smiling after what they saw Saturday.
The 6-foot-4 Farmer, given the start in place of the injured Jeff Trepagnier, scored a game-high 26 points in helping the Trojans defeat the Double Pump California West All-Stars, 108-88, in an exhibition game before an estimated 500 at the Lyon Center.
Farmer, from Northwestern High in Flint, Mich., and considered one of the nation’s top recruits, nailed his first shot--a three-pointer--less than two minutes into the game. He went on to make 10 of 14 shots, and was five of seven from three-point range.
Five Trojans finished in double figures. After Farmer, Brian Scalabrine had 21 points, and Jarvis Turner came off the bench to score 18 points.
