Sheriff’s homicide detectives are seeking the public’s help in locating three men responsible for a possible gang-related drive-by shooting death of a 15-year-old boy.

Julio Otero died at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center after Sunday’s attack, said a hospital spokeswoman. He died of gunshot wounds to the upper torso, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Vanette Ford.

“The 15-year-old male was walking southbound on Acacia Avenue when this vehicle drove up and the victim and the three people in the vehicle exchanged some words, and after the discussion, the occupants shot the victim and fled the location,” Ford said. The shooting occurred about 3:50 p.m. in the 200 block of North Acacia Avenue.

The Sheriff’s Department has a photo of the type of Ford Bronco that was believed to have been used by the suspects. It is described as dark blue with tinted windows and a very prominent gray stripe about 10 inches wide along the side, Ford said.

The photo is available for public viewing in the sheriff’s office at 4700 Ramon Blvd. in Monterey Park. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
