Hundreds of teachers picketed outside their campuses Wednesday, calling on the Irvine Unified School District to increase their pay. The 15-minute demonstrations, held at the end of the school day, were set up to inform parents and members of the community that salary negotiations with the district remain unresolved.

“We have not settled, and we are still looking for a competitive salary structure,” said teachers union President Gail Rothman. The union has asked for a 12% increase in wages for all teachers. The district at one point offered a 7.2% raise and has since upped its offer, Rothman said. The union has submitted a counteroffer and both parties went back to the bargaining table Thursday, she said.
