It was a bittersweet finale Thursday night for co-Coach Lee Jackson of Poly. The Parrots won their first game of the year, 22-19, over Verdugo Hills, but it marks the end of Zachary Sims’ career.

Sims, an All-City defensive back last season, opened the season at quarterback before moving to wide receiver. Sims, who passed for 634 yards and had 20 receptions for 269 yards and two touchdowns, even played tailback, scoring twice against the Dons.

“It was apparent he was our best receiver, so we moved him there,” Jackson said. “He was our leading tackler. He can play anywhere.”

Jackson said Sims, who had three interceptions this season, might get a chance to play in college. Among those asking about Sims recently was a recruiter from Boise State, where former Poly defensive standout Julius Roberts is a redshirt.
