Isn’t He Supposed to Be Running a Baseball Team?

Kevin Malone, committed to making the Dodgers a playoff contender with a $100-million payroll, dumps Davey Johnson, who had the highest winning percentage among active managers, in favor of breaking in a rookie manager with a mediocre minor league record?

Perhaps Malone should follow the example of George W. Bush, who ran the Texas Rangers without any success (once trading Sammy Sosa) and choose another profession.

The Dodgers may very well catch lightning in a bottle by hiring Jim Tracy as their new manager. Or, they may simply have given Kevin Malone a manager he can handle, as it is highly unlikely Mr. Tracy will give Mr. Malone any trouble or inappropriate statements to the press.

It’s not about winning, it’s about whining. Cool move, Mr. Daly.

Back in June or July, the Dodgers and Giants were playing, with the Dodgers still in the race. In the dugout, two or three Dodgers were playing with a small object, batting it up in the air and having a big laugh about the whole thing. In the meantime, the Dodgers were on the field, losing an important game to their hated rivals.

So whom do the geniuses in the front office hire as the new manager? The bench coach! I had never even heard of Jim Tracy until he was named manager, but as bench coach he was the one responsible for tolerating this silly behavior.

I don’t mean to sound melodramatic, but I have been a Dodger fan for 40 years, and with this group of idiots running the team, I feel like someone has stabbed me in the heart.

As a longtime Dodger fan, I was disappointed in the comments of those angered over the hiring of Jim Tracy as Dodger manager.

Whatever happened to the great American way of giving a guy a chance?

For heaven’s sake, let’s give Jim Tracy some slack and the benefit of the doubt, and not hang him for something that he has not done yet.

I see that Jim Tracy wants people to speak of him in the same vein as Tommy Lasorda.

What, he wants people to say he’s a lying, back-stabbing manager who falls asleep during games and has killed more arms than Dr. Jack Kevorkian?
