Bathrooms May Pose Hazards

Share

Regarding “Hidden Hazards” by Lew Sichelman, Oct. 29, one important room thatneeds to be included is the bathroom. Frequent slips and falls occur in the shower, particularly by elderly people. This can be prevented by a bathmat and handrails.

An open toilet can be fascinating for an infant. The toilet is often the site of drowning for small children.

Below the sink cabinet space is often used as storage for hazardous cleaning supplies. Cleaning supplies need to placed out of the reach of young children.

The Poison Control Center phone number should be among the emergency phone numbers near the telephone. In California the number is (800) 876-4766. The number will put the caller in touch with a trained pharmacist knowledgeable about poisons. Be prepared to describe the poison or medication and the age and weight of the victim.
