TURNING POINT: After the Huskies were perfect on their first two drives and looking as if they couldn’t be stopped, the Bruins recovered a fumbled pitch. Although they didn’t capitalize, the Huskies’ momentum was stopped.

NOT IN THE SUMMARY: On the Huskies’ second drive of the game Marques Tuiasosopo kept the ball on an option and broke outside for 16 yards. Ryan Nece rode him out of bounds but was flagged for a late hit out of bounds for the second game in a row. The penalty put the Huskies on the UCLA 19 and they punched it in five plays later.

STAT WATCH: Rich Alexis rushed for 75 yards on seven carries and was particularly tough on the option pitch, but a sprained shoulder on a 19-yard gain shelved him for the rest of the half.

2nd QUARTER

UCLA 21

Washington 14

THE SCORING: * UCLA 14, Washington 14: Foster, 12-yard run at 3:30. 47-yard drive, four plays. PAT--Griffith (kick).

* UCLA 21, Washington 14: Foster, 1-yard run at 0:43. 49-yard drive, three plays. PAT--Griffith (kick).

TURNING POINT: With less than two minutes left in the half, the Huskies had to punt, and Cory Paus’ 45-yard pass to Brian Poli-Dixon set up DeShaun Foster’s run that gave the Bruins the lead.

NOT IN THE SUMMARY: After the Bruins’ tying touchdown, Sean Sweat returned the kickoff to midfield, but a block-in-the-back penalty brought the Huskies back to their own nine-yard line. The Bruins began to take advantage of the field position.

STAT WATCH: After watching Alexis break out in the first quarter, Foster decided it was his turn in the second. He carried the ball seven times for 40 yards and two scores. Those touchdowns represented his 29th and 30th of his career and moved him up to fourth on the UCLA career list ahead of J.J. Stokes.

3rd QUARTER

Washington 35

UCLA 21

THE SCORING: * Washington 21, UCLA 21: Conniff, 4-yard run at 13:52. 71-yard drive, three plays. PAT--Anderson (kick).

* Washington 28, UCLA 21: Conniff, 5-yard run at 8:58. 95-yard drive, 11 plays. PAT--Anderson (kick).

* Washington 35, UCLA 21: Elstrom, 2-yard pass from Tuiasosopo at 3:27. 53-yard drive, nine plays. PAT--Anderson (kick).

TURNING POINT: After the Bruins forced a field goal, an offside penalty on the kick gave the Huskies new life and they cashed it in to take the lead.

NOT IN THE SUMMARY: Although he had been quiet all night, Freddie Mitchell made even Husky fans oooh and ahh with a one-handed grab. The third-down catch put the Bruins in what looked like field goal range, but Griffith’s 46-yard attempt was well short.

STAT WATCH: Poli-Dixon and Mitchell had a bit of a role reversal. By the end of the third, Poli-Dixon already racked up 117 receiving yards to Mitchell’s 30. Poli-Dixon finished the game with a career-high 165 yards in eight catches and a touchdown.

4th QUARTER

Washington 35

UCLA 28

THE SCORING: Washington 35, UCLA 28: Poli-Dixon, 7-yard pass from Paus at 1:57. 88 yards, 11 plays. PAT--Griffith (kick).

TURNING POINT: Mitchell has been making the big catch all year, but he just missed a crucial first down with under nine minutes to play. Trailing by two scores and facing a third-and-10 from the UCLA 18, Paus hooked up with Mitchell past the first-down marker. He reversed his field and ended up with only a seven-yard gain and the Bruins decided to punt the ball back to the Huskies rather than risk it on fourth-and-three from their 25.

NOT IN THE SUMMARY: Washington punter Ryan Fleming, playing in his final game at Husky Stadium, gave a shot to the Bruin comeback hopes when his 48-yarder rolled out of bounds at the Bruin three with 10:14 to play.

STAT WATCH: The Huskies rushed a season-high 349 yards. The Bruins’ previous high given up was 263 yards against Michigan. If Willie Hurst had not broken his clavicle, he and Alexis would have made it two rushers over 100 yards for Washington. Instead he finished with 11 carries for 99 yards.
