Teacher Sentenced for Sex With Student, 17
A Claremont High School English teacher will spend a year in county jail and serve five years’ probation after pleading guilty to having sex with a 17-year-old student.
Lorna Korber, 39, was sentenced Monday in Superior Court in Pomona after she pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a minor and one count of furnishing marijuana to a minor.
She was sentenced to four years in state prison, but her sentence was suspended and lessened after she agreed to plead guilty, said defense attorney Antonio J. Bestard.
If Korber violates the terms of her probation, a judge could invoke the suspended prison sentence, Deputy Dist. Atty. Christina Weiss said.
Bestard said Korber wanted to avoid going to trial to spare trauma to the victim.
Weiss said that because Korber’s four-year prison sentence was entered into the record, she no longer will be able to teach at a California public school.
Korber was charged with engaging in sexual acts with the student from Oct. 1, 1999, to June 2000.
