A man who claimed that he was carrying a gun robbed a Ventura branch of Wells Fargo Bank of an undetermined amount of cash Tuesday, authorities said.

Ventura Police Lt. Doug Auldridge said the man was last seen heading east through the bank’s parking lot near Mills Road and Maple Street shortly after the 11 a.m. robbery.

The robber was described as white, about 6 feet tall and 145 pounds. He was wearing a gray flannel shirt, gray cap, red-tinted glasses and jeans. He also had a shaggy beard and disheveled demeanor, authorities said.

The robber said he was armed, but no weapon was seen, police said.

David Nesbitt, supervisor of the FBI’s Ventura office, said the holdup was the 19th bank robbery in Ventura County so far this year. The last one was Aug. 15 in Thousand Oaks.

Nesbitt said suspects are in custody in 12 of the cases.
