UCI Falters in Second Half, Falls to China

UC Irvine hung tough for a half, but couldn’t keep up with the Chinese national team, which defeated the Anteaters, 77-57, Tuesday night in a women’s exhibition basketball game at UCI.

The Anteaters, who were outscored, 46-25, in the second half, were led by Wendy Gabbe (15 points) and Brandy Hudson (12 points). Cindy Oparah added eight points and seven rebounds for UCI. The teams combined to shoot only 15 free throws, the Chinese going two of eight and the Anteaters making four of seven.

Sui Feifei led the Chinese with 22 points.
