The Ventura Chamber Music Series will present a Copland Centennial Recital on Saturday, celebrating the 100th birthday of composer Aaron Copland. The program will feature works by Copland, plus some of his peers, including teacher Nadia Boulanger and close associate Leonard Bernstein. The performers will be Howard Colf, cello; Roberto Gomez, baritone; and Michele Zukofsky, clarinet.

Classical

Continuing its respected chamber music series, Camerata Pacifica will combine the lesser-known Ralph Vaughan Williams work “Phantasy” Quintet for Strings with standards at concerts in Ventura and Thousand Oaks this weekend. Founded and directed by Adrian Spence, the ensemble is lauded for outstanding musicianship and accessible programming.

Holiday Ballet

The Ventura County Ballet Company will join with Ballet Ventura School to present a full-length version of “The Nutcracker” this weekend at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center. The production, choreographed by Clarissa Boeriu, will be performed by locally based amateur and professional dancers. Featured artists will include Alexander Greschenko as Herr Drosselmeyer and Oxnard native Monica Galindo as the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Solo Vocals

In a production that aims to celebrate the “hope, humor and humanity of the holiday season through song,” soprano Vicki Harrop will present “Make a Joyful Noise” this weekend in Ventura. The solo performance, with musical arrangements by Gary Poirot, was developed through Opera Unplugged, a Ventura-based professional opera theater company.
