* Theater--The Santa Barbara City College Theatre Group will open “Resident Alien,” a new comedy by Stuart Spencer, Friday at the college’s West Campus. Michael, a frustrated intellectual working at Kmart in a small Wisconsin town, tries to convince his wife he’s not crazy for liking Beethoven and Tolstoy. * Ballet--State Street Ballet will present “Giselle,” a two-act romantic work, this weekend at the Lobero Theatre, 33 E. Canon Perdido St., Santa Barbara. * Classical--West Coast Chamber Orchestra will present two performances of “Mozart by Candlelight” Saturday at El Presidio Chapel. Christopher Story VI will conduct. * Jazz--Guest saxophonist Jeff Benedict will play with the UC Santa Barbara Jazz Ensemble on Saturday at the campus’ Lehmann Concert Hall. * Light Opera--The Santa Barbara Civic Light Opera will stage previews of its latest production, “Oliver!,” at the Granada Theatre. Preview dates: Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 p.m. The show will open Nov. 24 and play Wednesday-Friday, 8 p.m.; Saturday, 2 and 8 p.m.; Sunday, 2 and 7 p.m. Through Dec. 10.
