2 Men Killed in Plane Crash Near Temecula
Two men died when their single-engine experimental plane crashed beside California 79 east of Temecula Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Witnesses reported hearing the plane’s engine sputtering as it circled over the area, Riverside County sheriff’s spokesman Mark Lohman said.
Someone called authorities after seeing the plane crash and explode at about 10:50 a.m., said Larri Dillard, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration in Los Angeles.
The identity of the pilot and the passenger were not known and details of the plane’s route were not available. The fire burned about a quarter of an acre before it was put out by California Department of Forestry firefighters.
