ROSTER

RYAN BAILEY (Guard)

No. 21, 6-3, 195, Senior

Bailey, who had 17 assists in a three-game stretch against Syracuse, Arizona State and Arizona last season, backs up point guard Earl Watson. He is one of UCLA’s three senior captains.

MATT BARNES (Forward)

No. 23, 6-7, 230, Junior

With Jerome Moiso and JaRon Rush gone, Barnes should see plenty of playing time. In the four games in which he played at least 20 minutes last season, he averaged 12.3 points.

T.J. CUMMINGS (Forward)

No. 43, 6-8, 208, Freshman

Cummings, son of former NBA star Terry Cummings, made a name for himself by scoring 24 points in the season opener, a school record for a freshman debut. The question is when, not if, he joins the starting lineup.

JASON FLOWERS (Guard)

No. 1, 6-0, 182, Senior

Flowers transferred from UC Irvine to fulfill a dream of playing his senior season at UCLA. He’s a walk-on and the third-string point guard behind Watson and Bailey. Averaged 5.4 points a game.

DAN GADZURIC (Center)

No. 50, 6-11, 235, Junior

Gadzuric will go as far as his chronically sore knees allow. He shot 57% from the field last year and 39% from the free-throw line, and this potentially dominant post player scored more than 20 points once.

RICO HINES (Guard/Forward)

No. 22, 6-5, 210, Senior

Hines is expected to sit out the first month after knee surgery. After he recovers, he’ll serve a two-game suspension for hitting Barnes with a chair during a fight. He won the award for outstanding team play last season.

JOSIAH JOHNSON (Forward)

No. 54, 6-7, 237, Freshman

Johnson, son of former UCLA star Marques Johnson, is expected to sit out the first month because of a stress fracture in his left foot. If he recovers on schedule, he will spell Barnes and Cummings along the front line.

JASON KAPONO (Forward)

No. 24, 6-8, 206, Sophomore

The Bruins give thanks nightly for Kapono’s decision to return after filing for the NBA draft. He started all 33 games as a freshman, scored in double figures 29 times, and set a school record with 82 three-pointers.

BILLY KNIGHT (Guard/Forward)

No. 3, 6-5, 203, Junior

Knight quit the team last Dec. 28, rejoined the team five days later and worked his way into the starting lineup for the last five games, including the NCAA tournament. He’s a constant three-point threat.

TODD RAMASAR (Guard/Forward)

No. 11, 6-4, 213, Junior

Ramasar missed all of last season because of shoulder surgery and is out now because of a bad back. He could come in handy in games when Kapono, Barnes and Cummings all get into foul trouble.

RYAN WALCOTT (Guard)

No. 10, 6-1, 170, Freshman

Walcott, a cousin to Mike Bibby of the Vancouver Grizzlies, won’t play much behind Watson, Bailey and Flowers. All three are seniors, and Walcott figures to back up highly touted Cedric Bozeman of Mater Dei next season.

EARL WATSON (Guard)

No. 25, 6-1, 195, Senior

Watson played the game of his life against Maryland in the NCAA tournament last season--17 points, 16 assists, no turnovers. Over his head, or reaching his level? Watson says it’s the latter.

RAY YOUNG (Guard)

No. 34, 6-3, 210, Junior

Young will push Knight at shooting guard. He started 10 consecutive games last season but returned to the bench after back-to-back one-point games.
