Angels Boost Ticket Prices 5.6%

The Angels finished with a winning record last season--82-80--and will try to reap the benefit by raising single-game ticket prices for next season.

The announcement was made a day after Dodgers said they will not raise ticket prices for next season. The Angels bumped prices 5.6%, affecting tickets nearly across the board.

The increases range from $1 for a child’s ticket in the left-field pavilion to $2 for a field-box seat. The Angels made similar price hikes last season.

“The process of ticket pricing becomes a very complicated one and something this organization looks at very thoroughly,” said Tim Mead, the team’s vice president of communications. “It is an increase that the organization worked hard to keep as minimal as possible.”

The Angels froze season ticket prices after the 1999 season. Picked to win the American League West Division that year, the Angels finished last after a summer of public bickering by players.

The Angels were expected to finish last in 2000, but they stayed on the fringe of the pennant race all season. However, they were never able to mount a formidable challenge, finishing 9 1/2 games behind Oakland.

Mead said the team’s success played a part in raising the prices. He also said the team’s new average ticket price of $13.63 ranks in the middle among major league baseball teams.

Single-game ticket prices remained the same for club loge ($22), upper view ($10) and adult right-field pavilion ($8). All other ticket prices were raised.

“Obviously it is never pleasant to have any type of price increase,” said Kevin Ulich, the Angels’ vice president for sales and marketing. “Whenever prices go up on anything, this is based on our expenses. As much as you try to make ends meet, sometimes it’s just a necessity that you have to raise prices.”
