Deputy Commissioner Mary Ann Wyrsch was named acting commissioner of the Immigration and Naturalization Service after her boss resigned. Wyrsch will serve until there is a new presidential appointment and Senate confirmation of an immigration chief, which is not expected before the next administration takes office.
