Have Dodgers Learned It’s a Team Game?

Share

I’m amazed that Ross Newhan [Nov. 14] would encourage the Dodgers to sign Alex Rodriguez. It makes no sense.

First of all, haven’t we all learned by now that one player--no matter how good he is--can’t carry a team? Gary Sheffield and Kevin Brown both had great years in 2000, and the Dodgers got nowhere. And in all the years that Rodriguez has been on the Mariners--most of them with Ken Griffey Jr.--has Seattle ever won a championship? No.

Besides, if the geniuses who call themselves Dodger management think they have serious financial constraints now, just wait until they’re locked into an absurd $200-million contract with A-Rod. Kevin Malone, it’s time to look at yourself in the mirror . . . and then repeatedly slam your face against it.

The Republican and Democratic presidential campaigns spent $200 million and have yet to produce a winner.

If and when Kevin Malone leaves the Dodgers, I think he has a future in politics.
