Second-grader Alan Conrad is one of 15 finalists in an essay contest for a $1,000 savings bond scholarship from Mimi’s Cafe.
More than 3,500 entries were received; the event is part of the Write Stuff, a program Mimi’s Cafe created to help cultivate the writing skills of youth. Two $250 scholarships will also be given out.
Alan, 8, will read an essay that describes why he is thankful for being home-schooled.
Elementary school students from throughout the Southland who wrote on “What I have to be thankful for” will read their essays aloud.
Presentations begin at 10 a.m. today at Mimi’s Cafe, 1835 Newport Blvd., in Costa Mesa.
