Inmates’ Lawyer Is Hard to Believe
* Re “D.A. Clears Deputies in Jail Melee,” Nov. 14:
Excuse me, pardon me, but how stupid does the inmates’ attorney Jonathan Slipp think we are? Does he really expect us to believe they just surrendered peacefully after a violent flurry and refusal to heed warnings from the deputies?
Putting myself in the mindset of a criminal who realizes he is, in fact, in jail and engages in a melee, I don’t see him saying, “Well, that was fun. Now let’s just lie down here and give up.”
I dare say they knew what consequences their behavior would bring and were not all that eager to be nice. Although it’s in vogue nowadays to accuse law enforcement of almost anything, and there are cases that prove abuses exist, there is a limit to what we are willing to swallow.
