Mission San Juan Capistrano will hold a Posada, a traditional Mexican American Christmas procession, on Saturday. The event will mark the 224th year that the birth of Christ has been celebrated at the Mission.

The free event will begin with the lighting of the town Christmas tree across the street from the mission about 5 p.m.

The evening will also feature Christmas caroling, a life-sized Nativity scene and hot refreshments.

“This is the mission’s way of saying thank you to the community for its support throughout the year,” said Jerry Miller, an administrator at the mission. “It’s a fun family event and a great way to kick off the Christmas season.”

Resident Jacque Nunez will return as Mrs. Santa Claus and will be joined by other costumed holiday characters. The Mission Children’s Choir, the New Master’s Life Choir, the Praise Team II, the Santa Margarita Strings and harpist Anna Repp will also perform.

The mission is at 31522 Camino Capistrano. Information: (949) 234-1300.
