Mayor Bev Perry has been appointed to a new state commission on regionalism to help foster collaboration among communities and local governments.

Perry was appointed by Assembly Speaker Robert M. Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys) to the panel he formed Nov. 16. The 29-member commission will study and recommend changes to state policies and local governments to solve regional problems that cross city and county boundaries, such as traffic congestion, affordable housing, preservation of open space and promoting economic development.

Nick Bollman, president of the Oakland-based California Center for Regional Leadership, will chair the new commission, which meets in December.
