WHITTIER — Police searched Tuesday for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed an 83-year-old man with his van or truck in Santa Fe Springs.
Benjamin Veran, 83, of Norwalk was walking in the 14000 block of Firestone Boulevard about 8 p.m. when he was struck, said Sgt. Steve Francis. The accident happened in an area between Valley View and Marquardt avenues, along the Santa Ana Freeway.
Veran was taken to La Palma Intercommunity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police could not locate any witnesses, but evidence at the scene shows that Veran probably was struck by a truck or van with dual tires, Francis said.
