You may find yourself unconsciously muttering “No. 9, No. 9” to this album (in stores Tuesday). But that just underscores the legitimate lineage of these assemblages of Beatles music snippets, studio chatter, and Liverpool sounds and voices, supervised by Paul McCartney to accompany a collage art exhibition. Two long pieces by McCartney use mild techno beats as glue, while Welsh band Super Furry Animals eschews rhythm for art and ambience on the more fully realized, 17-minute “Peter Blake 2000.” It’s hardly as revolutionary today as “Revolution #9” was in 1968, but it’s universes away from the pop mainstream.
