Bouncing Along With La Banda

I just wanna rock ‘n’ roll all night and party ever-ee-day, and judging by the action in Clubland these daze, I believe I’m in the majority. My feet felt a wee bit lighter after hitting up the El Rey Theatre on Saturday for a powerful punch of rock en espanol sponsored by La Banda Elastica magazine. From a giant mariachi player to an Azteca sun, colorful, clever art pieces trucked in by the Illegal Interns set a groovy mood. Although crowd faves Pastilla closed out the night, my heart belongs to Los Olvidados (the Forgotten Ones), who also performed at the sold-out event.

Nigh ‘round six years ago, I stumbled into the Teaszer and got caught up in a sound I’d never heard before--passionate horns, wails and howls brought to you by punked-up rancheros singing in Spanish. Rad. Los Olvidados laid down their instruments a few years back, unable to catch an industry break, but reunited at the El Rey on Saturday as a favor to La Banda Elastica, and guests got the fix they needed, proving this band may have been gone, but hardly forgotten.

And who could forget Keith Morris? The founding member of the Circle Jerks and Black Flag hosted a kegger Saturday at Zero One Gallery in Hollywood, where he debuted some new stuff to a roomful of devotees who knew a thing or two about respecting their elders.

Now let’s get down to some new news: For a Good Time Call . . . is the name of a new Thursday dance scene at the Firm on Wilshire Boulevard, dialed in by Josh Richman, Travis Andres and Shane Powers (part of the party crew hosting the upcoming Orgy Ball and Papa Roach Platinum Party). The promoters have been handing out toy cell phones with the club’s info line. To wit, (323) 650-5903. And looks like Jason Lavitt and Apollo Starr may be teaming up for a Thursday night club at Tempest now that Cafe Bleu is vacating the premises.
