Jack Kaufman; Convenience Store Owner

Private family services were held Sept. 30 for Jack Kaufman, an Oxnard convenience store owner. He was 68.

Kaufman died on Sept. 20 at UCLA after recently being diagnosed with acute leukemia. He then spent 51 days at UCLA receiving treatment.

Kaufman was born Nov. 28, 1931, in Youngstown, Ohio, and had been a resident of Oxnard since 1969.

He had worked for Carriage Square Wine & Spirits before owning and operating two convenience stores in both financial towers in Oxnard. The stores were called Jack’s LeShoppe I and II.

He was a member of the Tower Club, the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, and the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry of Ventura.

His past memberships included the Trade Club and Ambassador Club, and he was president of the Cellar Club.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Patti, stepdaughters Pam Ruetten of Garden Grove and Tracy Ketts of Richmond, Va.; a brother, Jerry, of Youngstown; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial tribute for friends and family members was held this week at the Tower Club in Oxnard.

Donations may be made to the Jack Kaufman Memorial Fund, c/o American Commercial Bank’s Esplanade branch.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Guardian Memorial Funeral Directors & Crematory of Ventura County in Oxnard.
