Following a week of cloudy skies and cooler temperatures, the National Weather Service office in Oxnard forecasted a 60% chance of rain today, with a slight possibility of thunderstorms.

“It’s an unusually cold Pacific storm,” meteorologist Ray Tanabe said Monday. “It’s a little early in the season for us to get a storm of this type.”

In addition to half an inch of rain, Ventura County could see temperatures that dip down into the 40s overnight, Tanabe said. Most low temperatures throughout the county recently have been in the 50s.

There was a low Monday of 50 degrees in both Thousand Oaks and Ojai, and it was 52 and 53 in Simi Valley and Ventura, respectively.

Showers are expected this afternoon and evening, followed by a 40% chance of rain all day Wednesday. High temperatures will be in the mid-60s.

Clearing is expected by Thursday.
