2 City Councils to Debate Measure O
Two city councils plan to discuss Measure O at their respective meetings tonight.
The Thousand Oaks council plans to debate the county ballot measure, which would transfer $260 million in tobacco settlement money from the county to private hospitals.
Mayor Dennis Gillette has asked his fellow council members to oppose Measure O because he believes it could set a precedent of private agencies taking taxpayer money.
“The potential policy emphasis on this could be so negative as to be devastating to local government finances,” Gillette said.
In Oxnard, the council will decide whether to support the measure, oppose it or to take no stand at all.
Last month the Ventura City Council became the first in the county to officially oppose Measure O.
The Thousand Oaks council meets at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 2100 Thousand Oaks Blvd.
The Oxnard council meets at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 305 W. 3rd St.
