Orange County drivers Andrew Bordin and Townsend Bell are among five finalists for the inaugural Greg Moore Legacy Award, Championship Auto Racing Teams announced.

Bell, who drives in CART’s Indy Lights series, and Bordin, who finished third in the Toyota Atlantic series, were named along with Champ car drivers Helio Castroneves and Roberto Moreno and Indy Lights driver Casey Mears.

The winner will be announced Oct. 30 in Los Angeles, the day after the season-ending Marlboro 500 at Fontana. The award is given to the driver who best represents the competitive spirit and sportsmanship of Moore, who died last year during a race in Fontana.

Bordin, 24, of Laguna Niguel, has been third in the Toyota Atlantic series the last two years, and finished second in 1998.

Bordin is from Canada, as was Moore.

“Greg was a good friend of mine, and I feel totally humbled to be nominated for something like this,” said Bordin, who drove for PPI Motorsports in Rancho Santa Margarita. “It’s totally amazing.”

Bell, 25, of Costa Mesa, did not know Moore but admired his driving style. “It’s certainly an honor,” said Bell, who is second in the series with only the Fontana race remaining. “To be mentioned in the same breath as the [other nominees] is awesome, especially since it’s my first year in the CART community.”

Moore, the youngest man to win a Champ car event in 1996, was 24 when he died.
