Ted Storm will be the featured organ recitalist in Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor and the Toccata from Widor’s Symphony No. 5 on this Pipe Organ Spectacular program. Four Orange County choirs and other musicians also will participate. The concert, sponsored by the Orange County chapter of the American Guild of Organists, is part of a one-day event involving more than 2,000 performers playing in about 200 concerts nationwide.

Ernest Hemingway is the favorite author of contemporary Russian composer Youri Kazarian, whose 1998 two-character (soprano and baritone) opera “Ernest Hemingway” will receive its American premiere in a concert version by the Orange Coast College Symphony Orchestra led by Alan Remington. The program, which opens the orchestra’s 40th season, will begin with the Overture to Rossini’s “The Thieving Magpie” and conclude with Brahms’ Symphony No. 1.

Iceland is a small country, with only about 270,000 residents. But it has had a full symphony orchestra since 1950, even if currently it’s led by American-born Rico Saccani. The orchestra makes its Orange County debut with a program by Sibelius, Khachaturian and Icelandic composer Atli Heimar Sveinsson. Icelandic violinist Judith Ingolfsson will be the soloist in Khachaturian’s Concerto in D minor. The concert is sponsored by the Philharmonic Society as part of its Eclectic Orange Festival.
