Monday: Candidates for the Thousand Oaks City Council will attend a candidates forum from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Monte Vista Presbyterian Church at Lynn and Reino roads in Thousand Oaks.

Tuesday: The Ventura Chamber of Commerce will conduct a forum on Measure O, the proposal to give $260 million in tobacco settlement money to private hospitals in Ventura County, at 11:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn at 450 E. Harbor Blvd. in Ventura.

Seats should be reserved by today. Cost is $20 for members and $25 for visitors, which includes lunch. For information, call 648-2875.

Wednesday: The Community Foundation for Oak Park will host an election forum featuring candidates for school board and the Municipal Advisory Council at 7:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Red Oak School, 4857 Rockfield St.

Speakers will also present views on Measure O and take questions from the audience.

Thursday: The League of Women Voters is sponsoring a forum for candidates for the Ojai Unified School District Board and the 23rd Congressional District.

Invited candidates include Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley) and his opponents--Democrat Michael Case, Libertarian Roger Peebles, Natural Law Party candidate Stephen Hospodar and Cary Bruce Savitch of the Reform Party.

The forum will be at 9:30 a.m. at the Ojai Methodist Church at 120 Church Road. For information, call 640-8430.

Oct. 20: The League of Women Voters will hold a forum on ballot initiatives starting at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ventura, 4949 Foothill Road, west of Day Road.

The pros and cons of each proposition will be clarified, and attendees may also request to hear the league’s positions.

Oct. 20: Candidates for the Thousand Oaks City Council have been invited to a forum from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at St. Paschal Baylon Church, 155 E. Janss Road.

The candidates will have five minutes to introduce themselves and their platforms. They will then take questions from the audience.

Oct. 25: The Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce will conduct a mayoral and City Council candidate forum and luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Grand Vista Hotel, 999 Enchanted Way.

The forum, which will be moderated by state Sen. Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley), will look at business issues in the county, said Leigh Nixon, chamber president.

Oct. 25: The Moorpark Woman’s Fortnightly Club and the League of Women Voters of Ventura County will sponsor a candidates forum at 7 p.m. in the Moorpark City Council chambers, 799 Moorpark Ave.
