Look Out, Rams Are Back
Back from their almost unheard-of week off from practice, the St. Louis Rams are ready to hit the record book again.
They can extend their record of consecutive regular-season games with at least 30 points to 12 against the Atlanta Falcons, and Kurt Warner can break Drew Bledsoe’s record for most yards after six games.
Most impressive are some of the 17 NFL season records within reach:
* The record of 38.8 points a game set by the 1950 Los Angeles Rams. (The St. Louis Rams average 43.4).
* The scoring record of 556 points set by the Minnesota Vikings in 1998. (The Rams are on a 694-point pace.)
* The record of 70 touchdowns by the 1984 Miami Dolphins. (The Rams are on an 83-touchdown pace.)
* Warner--compared to Johnny Unitas by former Buffalo Bill coach Marv Levy--could break the records for passing yardage (Dan Marino), passer rating (Steve Young) and completion percentage (Ken Anderson.)
San Francisco Coach Steve Mariucci remains good friends with Brett Favre from his days as the Packer quarterback coach, and called Favre to wish him a happy birthday Tuesday.
“He called me in Hattiesburg (Miss.),” Favre told the Green Bay News-Chronicle. “You would think he knows I live in Green Bay. I called him back and left a message that I’m living in Green Bay, and we do play him this week. . . . I also left him a message that I was ready for the weak corner blitz.”
