Treatment for Drug Users
Re “State’s Voters to Decide: Rehab or Prison for Addicts,” Oct. 9: When the threat of withdrawal stops causing drug addicts like those featured in your story to sell drugs and assault, rob and carjack innocent victims, I might be willing to discontinue using the threat of prison to force them into treatment. Until then, I say take the $120 million and fund California’s drug courts! Don’t rely on the lack of drug testing, lack of legal sanctions and shoddy, fly-by-night operators Proposition 36 proposes to solve the problem.
