Eat ‘n’ Play: My wife and I like to take my mother out to dinner at the Gardens on Glendon in Westwood. And then we’ll walk over to see a play at the Geffen Playhouse. My friend Gil Cates is the artistic director there and they always have great plays.

Kickin’ It: Saturdays, I generally wake up pretty early and get my lineup ready for my soccer team. I’m coaching my 7-year-old son’s soccer team. We’re called the Jets and the kids are able to stay together on the same team in this league. It’s kind of nice. This is the third year they’ve been playing together. I’ve always coached my kids’ teams. I love to do that.

Canyon Country: Maybe we’ll go on a hike in the afternoon in Malibu Canyon. It’s so amazing to have such a beautiful patch of country so close to downtown Los Angeles. I directed a Disney film called “The Thanksgiving Promise” and we filmed back in there. The location scouts found a beautiful lake and waterfalls. We filmed about a week back in there so I became quite familiar with it. Since then, whenever I get a chance, I love to go on hikes through there with my family. It’s really great, and you can ride bikes in there.

Set With Seafood: What we did recently was a lot of fun. We drove to that crab restaurant way, way out by the county line on Pacific Coast Highway. It’s called Neptune’s Net. It’s like a crab stand, and they have a pretty large cooking area in the back that’s all open--people are walking around--and they have these huge pots and big vats with crabs and lobsters in them, and they just pick these live crabs and pop them in the pan. And then they give you a big thing of butter and you go outside and sit on picnic tables and eat.
