It’s a Red Hot Charity Night at Spaceland

Share

Spaceland was struck by a pair of Red Hot Chili Peppers last week, who treated the jubilant crowd to Joy Division covers. Both Flea and John Frusciante played with their hearts on their sleeves to help raise money for a new Eastside children’s co-op.

A Clubland uber-vixen tells us Keanu Reeves kicked down a mighty six-figure sum that night, too. That’s what I like to hear--a bit of ‘60s-style activism. Now, if only Reeves’ band, Dogstar, would take a cue from Fred Durst, and release its cover of the Carpenters hit “Superstar” (off Dogstar’s latest album) as a single. Durst rode to fame on the coattails of George Michael with Limp Bizkit’s fierce cover of “Faith.” And c’mon, who doesn’t love the Carpenters?

P.J. Harvey transfixed the Viper Room with new material Monday and among the rockers who came to worship at her rock ‘n’ roll feet were Anthony Kiedis, Zack de la Rocha, Scott Weiland, Beck, Eric Erlandson and Sheryl Crow. . . . Seems I can’t turn on my MTV these days without seeing some of my Clubland pals. At Durst’s recent Playboy Mansion party, I caught close-ups of promoters Rick Calamaro and Josh Richman cavorting in the hinterground. And you can’t miss Clubland fixture Johnny Knoxville on his appropriately titled Sunday night show, “Jackass.” (Knoxville’s currently in Miami shooting “Big Trouble.”)

MTV also hosted last Friday’s Orgy Ball, featuring L.A.’s very own band Orgy in a sexy Hollywood setting reminiscent of the old club Power Tools. On hand to join the fun were Rod Stewart, Mark McGrath, Kathy Valentine and Leif Garrett, as well as dozens of our favorite local yokels.

Word up to the fire marshal, who crashed the Orgy Ball early and made it near impossible for anyone to get in after 10 p.m.: Quit reading my column.

Finally, we’re stoked to report that Pauley Perrette and Coyote Shivers plan to tie the knot Friday in Las Vegas! Yippee, another Clubland nuptial. It was love at first sight for the rockers-actors, who plan to celebrate with friends at the Bar Marmont Sunday night. Wow. They’ve only just begun.
