So there it is, your sleek new PC--a tricked out bad boy with a blistering clock speed of 933 megahertz. You venture out on the Net to see how it handles and the first thing you find is an online ad for the computer you just unpacked.

Only faster.

And cheaper.

Trust us, we’ve been there.

So we’re starting Tech Times, a weekly section devoted to personal technology. Our mission is simple: To help keep you plugged into the dramatic technological changes shaping all of our lives--from shrinking wireless phones to lifelike video games.

All of our reporters and editors use the technology they cover and everyone shares the goal of making the complex understandable and relevant.

From time to time, we’ll produce special themed sections such as the one on wireless communications in today’s paper. These won’t run every week. We have lives, you know.

Drop us an e-mail at techtimes@latimes.com. Individual writers can be reached at the e-mail addresses listed under their bylines. You can also check us out online at https://www.latimes.com/tech, where we archive features from the print edition--plus a few things you won’t find anywhere else. Or, if you prefer putting pen to paper, our address is 202 W. 1st St., Los Angeles, CA 90012.
