The city today will hold “Celebrate the City,” a public black-tie event that seeks to showcase the revitalization of downtown Brea.

The event will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. in downtown Brea along Birch Street.

The celebration will feature a tour of City Walk, a new neighborhood including an affordable housing component. The festivities include an official inauguration of the downtown area, the unveiling of plaques and public art, scholarship announcements and the “100 Years of Broadway” theater production by Cal State Fullerton students.

The revitalizion began in 1989 with a $50-million Brea redevelopment agency investment covering a 20-acre area. This expanded to a 50-acre project in which developers invested more than $100 million. The revitalization consisted of acquiring the acres, removing blighted structures and relocating families and businesses.
