As pointed out in the Valley Perspective by Nan Cano, “Even at ‘Affluent’ Agoura High, Educational Dollars Are Scarce,” (Oct. 15) funds to teachers for classroom supplies are very limited. At $45 per teacher for a five-period day, I would say that they are infinitesimal.

To be a professional educator in California today means more than planning lessons and imparting knowledge. It also means sacrificing your time (donating without compensation) and means (subsidizing education monetarily) to supplement that provided by the district.

If administrators were required as part of their job description to periodically be reassigned for a year to teach in today’s classroom environment, they might better understand the burdens that teachers bear and the personal sacrifices that teachers make to ensure the district’s achievement levels and goals are met.
