TURNING POINT: Ken Simonton committed the first of two fumbles. His first-quarter fumble at the Oregon State 33 was recovered by Marques Anderson, who recovered two in the first half. Chris Griffith missed a 24-yard field goal after Oregon State’s touchdown.

NOT IN THE SUMMARY: In Oregon State’s scoring drive, Simonton had nine carries for 37 yards and Smith completed five of six passes.

STAT WATCH: Oregon State had eight first downs to UCLA’s three. In the game, the Beavers converted 12 of 18 third downs to UCLA’s two of 11.

TURNING POINT: It appeared that Oregon State was about to take a 14-7 lead on its third possession after Simonton’s 34 yards on eight carries helped move the Beavers to the UCLA 1, but Ricky Manning Jr. forced Simonton to fumble and Anderson recovered to end the Beaver drive.

NOT IN THE SUMMARY: Oregon State’s second-quarter turnover was one of three in the game, which led to 10 UCLA points. The Bruins had three opportunities to score a touchdown from the Oregon State 3 but settled for a field goal after LaDarius Jackson sacked Cory Paus for minus-3 yards on third down from the Oregon State 3. Jackson had three sacks in the game for losses totaling 22 yards.

STAT WATCH: Oregon State committed three penalties for 30 yards, and finished with eight penalties for 83 yards.

TURNING POINT: After scoring a touchdown and forcing UCLA to punt after four plays on the next drive, the Beavers appeared to take a a 27-24 lead, but Houshmandzadeh’s 83-yard punt return was nullified by a holding penalty.

NOT IN THE SUMMARY: Simonton saw limited action and carried the ball five times for 25 yards. He did not play the rest of the game. Coach Dennis Erickson said he took Simonton out because of a sprained hamstring but after the game Simonton said he felt fine. He needed 107 yards to reach 1,000 yards rushing this season and become the first Pac-10 player to rush for 1,000 yards as a freshman, sophomore and junior but fell short by seven yards.

STAT WATCH: Jonathan Smith’s streak of 141 passes thrown without an interception was snapped by Mat Ball, who broke his right hand during the game. Oregon State gained 184 of its 604 total yards in the third quarter.

TURNING POINT: Ryan Atkinson forced Akil Harris to fumble at the UCLA 20 with 10:19, left leading to a Beaver touchdown that tied the score at 31-31. UCLA’s went three and out on its next drive and Oregon State kicked two consecutive field goals, followed by a controversial drive that ended with a touchdown. Earlier in the drive, it appeared that Smith fumbled the ball and it was recovered in the end zone by the Bruins for a touchdown, but the play was nullified by a dead-ball penalty. But the Bruins fought back, they scored a touchdown and trailed by five with the help of a 15-yard roughing-the-passer penalty by the Beavers and a 25-yard pass to Brian Poli-Dixon from Paus.

NOT IN THE SUMMARY: Gabe Crecion’s 67-yard touchdown was the longest reception of his career. Two of his three career touchdowns have come against the Beavers.

STAT WATCH: Paus passed for a career-high 363 yards, completing 19 of 33 passes including 163 yards, and six of 16 in the fourth.
