Walk Raises Money for AIDS Project

Share

More than 400 people participated in a walk and concert in Plaza Park on Sunday to raise money for AIDS Project Ventura County.

The walk started at 9 a.m. and wound through the streets of Ventura. It featured individuals and teams from churches and business groups throughout the county. Students from Channel Islands High School served as crossing guards. Concerts after the walk lasted most of the day.

Organizers estimated the event raised at least $45,000.

Most proceeds will go to AIDS Project Ventura County for a food pantry, dental and mental health services and a secondary education program for people with HIV and AIDS. A portion will go to the Ventura County AIDS Partnership, which raises money for AIDS prevention and care. The remainder will go to Christopher Place, the county’s only AIDS residential care home.
