City Council members tonight will discuss adopting an ordinance that would prohibit self-service tobacco display racks. Mayor Bruce Broadwater requested the measure to help prevent minors from buying tobacco products.

Councilman Bill Dalton has requested a discussion on televising the oral communications portion of the council meetings.

Retiring police investigator Bill Johnson will be recognized for his 28 years of service and Scott and Faith Freeman will be honored for being named local Entrepreneurs of the Year.

The meeting starts at 6:45 p.m. in the Community Meeting Center, 11300 Stanford Ave.

In closed session, city officials will discuss a $1-million claim brought against the city by a former resident, who alleges that a police officer assaulted her in February.
