The Orange County Water District’s board of directors has approved the extension of a no-cost lease of 2.5 acres used for a hunger-relief project that has provided 40,000 pounds of fresh produce to the needy in the last two years.

The land, which is the future site of a ground-water treatment facility, is used by Orange County Harvest, a food bank working with a local farmer and 1,000 youth volunteers from nearby schools to produce fruits and vegetables.
