Orange County Gives Riordan Recognition
The most famous public official in Orange County is . . . Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan.
Riordan was recognized by 75% of local voters in a recent survey, more than double the highest score received by any of the 11 Orange County elected officials named, including the sheriff, district attorney and members of the Board of Supervisors.
A chart-topping 52% of Orange County voters correctly identified Riordan as the mayor of Los Angeles in the survey released Thursday by the Center for Public Policy at California State University Fullerton. The poll, which queried 544 voters earlier this month on a variety of topics, was commissioned by the Orange County Business Council.
Riordan’s recognition is no mystery, said Dr. Keith Boyum, director of the university’s public policy center. “We don’t have our own television market,” he said.
The most recognized Orange County official among those named in the survey was Anaheim Mayor Tom Daly, known by 41% of voters. However, only 8% of voters correctly identified Daly as the mayor of Anaheim.
About 56% of voters said they favored the idea of having an Orange County elected chief executive.
