A 34-year-old woman pleaded no contest Thursday to voluntary manslaughter for the 1998 death of one of her newborn twins.

Carol Ann Clark was sentenced to 11 years in prison for the asphyxiation of her 5-day-old son, Taylor. The boy was found in his mother’s apartment in the 2100 block of Pine Avenue on Nov. 21, 1998.

Although the boy was found wrapped in a plastic shower curtain, officials are unsure the exact manner of asphyxiation, Deputy Dist. Atty. Richard Goul said.

Prosecutors offered the plea because it was unclear whether Clark intended to kill the child, Goul said. Medical and police records show that Clark, who has a thyroid condition, would display “erratic behavior” whenever she went off her medication, Goul said.

Clark’s other son, Tyler, is being monitored by protective services and is under the care of a family member, Goul said.
