Dhenin Leads Valencia’s Rout of Magnolia

Grant Dhenin scored three touchdowns as Valencia beat Magnolia, 42-7, Friday in an Orange League game at Glover Stadium.

Dhenin, a senior running back, rushed for 115 yards and one touchdown in 16 carries for the Tigers (5-3, 2-1 in league). He also caught two touchdown passes.

Defense set up Valencia’s first score. Alex Perez recovered Magnolia quarterback Kevin Arbiso’s fumble on the second play of the game to give Valencia the ball on the Sentinels’ 35-yard line.

Valencia’s Robert Hernandez passed 10 yards to Sonny Lopez. Dhenin ran 21 yards to the four-yard line. Scott Parker scored on the next play, with 9:28 remaining in the first quarter, and Keith Allen made the first of six point-after conversions.

Hernandez, a junior quarterback, completed 16 of 24 passes for 185 yards and three touchdowns.

The Tigers increased the lead to 14-0 on their second possession, going 47 yards in six plays. Dhenin caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Hernandez.

Valencia scored with 2:02 left in the first quarter when Hernandez passed 21 yards to Justin Fletcher for a 21-0 lead.

Magnolia (1-7, 0-3) scored with 29 seconds left in the half on Arbiso’s one-yard sneak to make it 35-7.
