The Galaxy won the first game, 2-1, at the Rose Bowl on goals by Paul Caligiuri and Clint Mathis, then tied the second game, 1-1, at Dallas as Caligiuri again scored. The third match was a 4-2 Dallas blowout at the Cotton Bowl, with Luis Hernandez netting his first MLS goal and Greg Vanney scoring on a penalty kick after the Galaxy had fallen behind, 4-0.
