Office Helps Disabled Performers Find Jobs
An organization that fosters opportunities in the entertainment business for people with disabilities will open an office today on Lankershim Boulevard.
The Media Access Office, which will open with a 1 p.m. ceremony followed by an open house, will provide a professional platform for performers with disabilities, including casting services, classes and workshops that build competitive skills and offer career guidance.
“We work to get people with disabilities in the entertainment industry,” Media Access Office spokeswoman Jennifer Lingua said. “That includes placement in feature films, television shows and commercials.”
The new office also will offer drama and dance classes each month and a job club that matches individuals with jobs.
The Media Access Office was established in 1980 by professionals in the entertainment and media industries and the California Governor’s Committee for Employment of Disabled Persons.
Besides matching disabled people with jobs, the organization alsopromotes the accurate portrayal of the disabled in all areas of the industry.
