Florida Coach Steve Spurrier says Jesse Palmer, a senior who has started--but not finished--the No. 6-ranked Gators’ first two games, will be the starter in Saturday’s Southeastern Conference showdown at No. 11 Tennessee.

Freshman Rex Grossman will be Palmer’s backup. Grossman replaced Palmer last week and threw three touchdown passes in a 55-0 victory over Middle Tennessee State.

Reynolds said he injured the hand Aug. 26 against Brigham Young. . . . Maryland quarterback Calvin McCall, benched for the beginning of last week’s game against Temple as a disciplinary measure, will start Saturday against West Virginia. . . . Indiana Coach Cam Cameron was fined $10,000 by the Big Ten Conference for critical remarks he made Saturday of Atlantic Coast Conference officials who worked Hoosiers’ home loss to North Carolina State.
