Woman Arrested on Charge of Abandoning Her Baby
A 31-year-old Los Angeles woman was arrested on suspicion of abandoning her infant at an East Los Angeles gas station early Wednesday.
The 4-month-old baby was discovered about 6:15 a.m. inside a car in the parking lot of a Shell gas station in the 4300 block of Cesar Chavez Avenue, said Sheriff’s Lt. Margie Wagner.
A Sheriff’s Department announcement seeking the baby’s parents brought several witnesses who apparently saw a man and woman, believed to be the child’s mother, arguing near the car early Wednesday, Wagner said. The announcement also prompted family members of the woman, whose name was not released, to contact authorities, Wagner said.
The baby was found in good condition and was believed to be unattended for less than an hour, she said.
He was referred to the custody of the Department of Children’s Services.
