The City Council on Tuesday approved a more stringent noise ordinance. The new regulations will consider the level, duration, location and time of the noise to determine if a violation has occurred.

Current laws require use of a noise meter. The council also approved a second ordinance that authorizes the city to charge noise offenders for police or code enforcement officer visits.

With the new law, offenders can be charged if officers visit their homes or businesses more than once. Council members hope the laws will help limit noise disturbances in residential neighborhoods.
